Lack of social mobility
and inequality
With substandard housing, poverty and social disorganisation, it is difficult for young people to perform well at school. The dropout rate is high and and the lack of a formal address can be an obstacle to finding a job.
Insecurity and
armed conflicts
Problems relating to weapons and violent confrontations between the police and drug gangs.
Lack of
perspective
With the economic crisis in the country, young people in the community have few options for formal work and lack motivation for a better future.
We formulated the concept and methodology for Project Hub, based on findings from a scoping study that identified a clear need to build the hope and aspirations of young people in the favela community in their futures.
